Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed was quoted, calling for the rebuilding of Ethiopia’s naval force capacity, during a meeting with senior military officials. Although Ethiopia has been landlocked since Eritrea won independence from Ethiopia in 1991, it is thought that Ahmed was referring to recent deals for Ethiopia to take ownership of stakes in ports of Sudan and Djibouti.
